ORIENTATION WEEK 6conclusion of the week: i am a very lucky girl! :D
i was assigned to the Triage room for the 6th week of my orientation.
heard stories from my 2 other colleagues who were there previously and the stories totally freaked me out as a newbie.
they said patients come in groups - one moment you are very free, the next moment you have 3-4 patients in your queue. so it's either you are very busy or you are very free. no in-betweens.
what made things worse was that the both of them are experienced nurses, meaning they have prior experience before coming to the polyclinic. and they actually have some difficulty coping with the workload.
i was thinking 'I'm going to be in deep shit when I'm there.' :/
when i was there for the first day, things were quite okay.
the senior staff nurse there orientated me to the room and showed me some guidelines for triage.
then the patients started coming in. :/
i was quite clumsy initially, knocking over the thermometer on the table occassionally while attending to patients :/
luckily, the senior staff nurse was there for me. (:
her reassurance definitely made me feel better.
subsequently i felt much more confident to triage patients. managed to do things systematically and asked the right questions. (:
by the 2nd day there, i was quite independent already. (:
i could make decisions on the type of queue number to give patients more confidently instead of asking the senior staff nurse to come over to my room for every patient (:
and i realised patients don't really come in groups. haha.
the average number of patients i triage per day is 15.
and all the staff there said i was the luckiest newbie in triage room. LOL
because our 'regular patient' didn't come during my week in triage room :D
BGI tomorrow.
looking forward to see my kids! :D
