WOOHOO!!! ED POSTING IS OVER! :D
this means another step nearer to graduation and the start of 2 weeks holiday! :D
don't know whether we are lucky or unlucky. we only had 4 days of ED posting.
LOLS XD
22.09.09; FIRST DAY @ EDorientation was quite short and we had to start work.
was posted to the P3 observation bay and the consultation rooms.
it was boring at first as we didn't know what to do. so we just observe what the ANs were doing.
went for lunch alone D:
work was much better after lunch (:
i decided to be more proactive and make myself useful. heh.
saw quite alot of cases (:
met up with CK! :DDD
and we went to 7-eleven for cheesy sausage with mashed potato :D
23.09.09; SECOND DAY @ EDmy one and only morning shift for this posting.
was posted to the adult triage station (:
it's not easy to be a triage nurse 'cos you have to know about alot of diseases so that you can ask questions and assign the patient to the appropriate category.
exam results was supposed to be out at 8am but i didn't receive any SMS from school. ):
i was so anxious la.
went for lunch with Siew Ying, Ling Ling, Fu Yu, Xiaoli and Si Hui.
we were discussing about why the results have not been released when i suddenly felt some vibrations in my pocket.
it was 2 SMSes and i knew it was my exam results.

i was shocked.
3 distinctions.
something which i have never encountered before in my life.
i even thought i was dreaming and asked Siew Ying to pinch me. LOLS XD
i was super happy for the rest of the day.
and i triaged 2 cases all by myself! (i asked the questions and the SN typed in the info) :D
met CK :DDD
and i told him the good news :D
thanked him for accompanying me to study and all the motivation :D
thank you to all those who have helped in one way or another too!
and i was even happier when Jiahui told me her results! :D
she finally broke the GPA 1.0 curse! :DD
and she got GPA 2.0 blah blah! :DDD
congratlations KAKA! :DDDD
24.09.09; THIRD DAY @ EDafternoon shift and posted to P1 today.
was there quite early.
the SN there introduced me to the Sister in charge of P1.
then the Sister brought me on a tour around P1.
and i asked her about the cardiac thumper.
i saw it on this medical show on channel 8 sometime back so i was curious if they really use it for CPR.
the Sister told me she was quite new to the ED and she haven't seen one since she was there. She wasn't sure if they had it so she went to ask a staff nurse.
And guess what, they really have it in the ED! :D
the SN said that the cardiac thumper was a bulky machine and they seldom use it. they will usually do manual CPR during resuscitation.
went for a mechanical ventilator talk after that so working hours was cut off (:
had dinner with friends and went back to work.
P1 was a really interesting area.
i got to see a patient whose hand was nearly amputated,
a patient with pneumothorax,
a patient who has epitaxis secondary to road traffic accident,
and an old lady who was brought in because she had fever decreased responsiveness.
for the last case, i got to gown up in PPE! :D
first time ever! :D
but it's an unusual case la.
when the old lady came in, no matter how hard we tried to call her, she can only blink her eyes slightly. her eyes wasn't even open.
but after we inserted a urine catheter for her, she became very responsive and started talking.
i was amazed. never came across such a case before.
when i presented this case to my lecturer, she also said it was an unusual case.
25.09.09; LAST DAY @ EDwas posted to P2 and just helped out here and there.
the nurses there were too busy to guide us
but i still had a fulfiling last day doing the parameters and cardiac monitoring :D
when we left, the Brother opened the doors for us (the doors need to be opened using a staff pass) :D
i thanked him for the great experience in ED and he smiled :D
oh,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAN ENG HEE! (25 Sept) (:
my mouth feels so weird. it's like having spasms.
26.09.09my mouth still feels weird but slightly better than yesterday.
it feels abit numb now ):
and i think i can only eat whipped potato and baby food now.
i even have to grind my apple into some baby-food-like substance before i can eat it.
i can't imagine what is going to happen 2 weeks later.
i hope it gets better soon.
love, now & forever
